Above you will see the sires of the 2010 lamb crop and the sires we will be using this fall for the 2011 lamb crop. With the formation of our genetic pool, Mount Rushmore Consortuim, we will rotate sire lines each year for the benefit of all. The young sires battery that we used last year has moved on to their new MRC flocks. Hank is at DB Farms in Ohio, Kwyta is covering ewes at Lambshire, and a Tank son moved on to Larry Bremer. We were very happy with their first lamb crop here at West Cyclone. Hank, M line, put the maternal traits in that we wanted. Tanks, W line, are very attractive sheep with good balanced EBVs. Kwyta, K line, probably surprised us the most. His daughters are great looking ewe lambs. Five of our nine replacements are K lines. We are very confident that his NLB and NLW EBVs will raise as they come into production. Watch for great 2011 lambs out of these sires at their new flocks.

"The little flock with big numbers."
Purebred Polypay Sheep
We are excited about our sire draw in MRC. First, Yel700 has a story that goes way back. His sire was YT19 the famous ram that our old friend Chuck Ripley had hid in a commercial flock for several years. Larry Bremer finally found him and brought him back on the registered side, with Chuck's permission of course. YT19 was a Cornhusker son. Many of you know Chuck and I owned Cornhusker together. We are truly excited to have a Cornhusker grandson back in the flock. On the dam side he is out of one of Anderson's really good ewe, GRN1093, She is a Black Magic daughter. The link on Charlie's dam was broken in the data transfer. We will update his EBVs when we we get them.
The other ram we drew was Yel 753. He will represent the U line. Aptly named because his sire B147 came from Bill and Helen Hardman's Uncompahgree Polypays. This is another set of genetics that has found it's way back to West Cyclone Farm. B147 is sired by WC534, Harlan, a ram we sold Bill in 05. WC534 stood well at Umcompahgre and we are certainly glad to get a little piece of the genetics back. Yel753 dam again is an outstanding Lambshire ewe. GRN1171 has a strong history of out of season lambing that we are looking for.
Please check our "For Sale" for progeny of these great sires. The Spring 2010 rams are listed. We are hoping to have a nice set of fall born 2010 lambs out of Kwyta and Hank. We will post the EBVs as soon as we can obtain them. We will start listing the 2011 lambs out of the new sires next spring.
